"I appeal to my muses, may they give me the ability to grasp the great emotional flow coming from the fantastic world of carpets and send it through this blog"
Classify every carpets into categories and giving them a name isn’t so easy as it seems, in fact there are many factors and criteria which can be used to differentiate the manufactures. The carpets often take their name from the village or the city where they were knotted, and sometimes from the nomadic population who realized them or from their dimensions. The measures are generally used to make a second level classification for the rugs contained in a particular category.
All the Carpets Sizes
Morandi Carpets use this particular classification for the manufactures dimension. Don’t take it as an absolute consideration as the centimetres of the edges can be flexible in some cases.
Jastik: These are the smaller carpets (40/70, 80/120, and 90/145 cm), perfect to be put under a little table in the living room, in the bedroom under a drawer or even in the bathroom; this Turkish word literally means “pillow” but it’s also used to indicate carpets and particular bags once used by the nomadic populations;
Zaronim: They are perfect for the end of the bed, a small hallway or in other room to respect the 2/3 proportion of floor areas covered by rugs and carpets; they measure 90/110 or 145/170 cm and their name comes from the word “Saer-i-nim” that means one saer and a half;
Dosar or Sejadeh: These categories include small-medium carpets measuring approximately 110/160 and 170/210 cm. The word Dosar means two saer (Iranian linear unit of measure that corresponds to 1,07 meters). Sejadeh derives instead from seddshad that means “he that is folded in prayer”, in fact these carpets were often used for religious moments. These rugs are good for many locations because they are one of the most widespread dimension for antique carpets: they can be also put between small sofas;
Pardeh: It means curtain and indicates carpets with 150/200 and 210/270 cm dimensions. It’s a really common size, extremely used in the modern and contemporary carpets. It’s not so widespread for antique rugs instead because once houses had different space dimensions. The Pardeh manufactures are perfect between sofas or in a large hall;
Big and Giant:170/220, 260/330, 220/280 and 330/380 cm carpets are a perfect solution to furnish big living room and to be put under sofas or tables. They are also called Khalì or Qalì, words used in the eastern culture to indicate hand knotted manufactures. Given that smaller rugs have accurate denominations, these two words are generally referred to big size carpets;
Runners: These are particular carpets that can be even 3 meters long;
Kelley: The main characteristic of these manufactures is that their length is twice their width. Morandi distinguish them into small and big. They were once used combined with the main carpet in the living room but nowadays the fashion is changed and it’s difficult to use them to furnish the house.
Square: The square carpets can be small, medium or big and they are often custom made because they are very difficult to be used; knotting with this format it’s sometimes difficult to respect the proportions.
Morandi Tappeti the most equipped store for every carpet size and measure, despite some of these beautiful manufactures are really difficult to be used.
